Governor Edwin Edwards Book - Ronald Falgout

Outstanding author Leo Honeycutt, researched and documented many buried and/or long forgotten facts about brilliant and controversial Louisiana Governor Edwin Edwards, from his birth, until he was apparently railroaded into prison.
In this book, you will clearly see the Conductor as he prepares the train for the trip; you’ll see how certain witnesses are rendered disabled, and for a price, they agree to board the train, with the help of Porters who are only too happy to help the disabled climb aboard, before “the train leaves the station.”
You’ll see the Station Manager clear the tracks as the Engineer throttles up for a one-way trip to hell. Read on to see how the Governor’s inalienable rights are alienated, as he is apparently, illegally and secretly audio recorded and videotaped by the FBI, in his office, in his home, even in his bedroom, then, indicted on theory, prosecuted and convicted with “bought” testimony and is assassinated right in front of the press.
Where is the public’s outrage? Until now, there isn’t any, because the public’s thinking was systematically and methodically pre-conditioned. This book will make many Americans stop dead in their tracks to question the tactics of their own government.
Regardless of whether you admire, dislike, or, have no particular opinion of Governor Edwin Edwards, everyone in the State of Louisiana, as well as every person who enjoys freedom, should read this revealing book. This book is not only interesting, it is superbly written by an unbiased author who did impeccable research and documentation. All of the information is there for you to make up your own mind and reach your own conclusion. The real “guilty one’s” and their accomplices’ cannot be missed; all of the evidence is interestingly presented and neatly catalogued for the reader to see.
It’s too bad for Governor Edwards that all of the facts in this book were not presented to the jury, as they are presented in this book; otherwise, there would have been a train load of “reasonable doubt” in jurors minds. Additionally, it’s too bad that all of the facts, details and deals that were cut with witnesses were not revealed to the jury, in clear detail, during the trial.
If you are an Edwards hater, I encourage you to buy the book and read it, but, you’re forewarned to brace yourself. Right at the beginning, in the Foreward Section of the book, Louisiana’s Republican Governor Dave Treen, one of Democratic Governor Edwin Edwards’ strongest adversaries, gives the reader eye opening clues about what is to come. In fact, this squeaky clean and highly respected former Congressman and Governor of Louisiana, could easily see the railroad job that was done to his old adversary and because of Governor Treen’s high integrity and his sense of complete fairness, he spent much personal time and money, unsuccessfully trying to get Governor Edwards released from prison. Governor Treen did all he could do in an attempt to right what he saw as an obvious wrong.
In fact, Governor Treen was so offended by what he learned about the trial of Governor Edwards, that he used his personal reputation and his political influence, at the highest levels of the U.S. Government, to try to have Governor Edwards released from prison. To no avail and to this day, Governor Edwards remains in prison. If Edwards lives long enough to walk out of prison, I will predict that we have not heard the end of this.
This book is more than a story about the life and trials of Governor Edwin Edwards, it is a documented history written for the benefit of generations yet to come.

(EDITOR’S NOTE:) The train analogy is from when Judge John Parker got on television and made the prejudicial comments reported on page 406 of the book urging others indicted to turn against Edwards: “better hop on the train because it’s pulling away from the station”.

David Treen’s comments in the foreword:
“I believe the federal government, and by that I mean Judge Frank Polozolo and U. S. Attorney Jim Leten, doubled his sentence from the prescribed five years purely out of vindictiveness. They didn’t like him. That’s not a good reason to double someone’s sentence, and is, I believe a misuse of power.” “Even if Governor Edwards was guilty of what he was convicted, he certainly never stole a dime from the taxpayers. That’s one of the few things he was never accused of. I am not even saying he was guilty at all, because the investigation and trial were certainly dubious. So, for all these reasons, I felt his sentence was too long, let along it just didn’t make sense to keep him locked up at his age.”
