Crowley Main Street celebrated their 2nd Annual Main to Main Fall Fest Thursday at Crowley City Hall. Main to Main is a celebration of all the Louisiana Main Street communities throughout the month of November. This event is sponsored in part by the Lieutenant Governor’s Office and co-sponsored by Louisiana Main Street and the City of Crowley. The event is designed to stimulate cultural tourism throughout the state and foster economic development.
Several state and local dignitaries were in attendance and were treated to a first class evening complete with food from some of the area’s finest restaurants and music by members of the Acadiana Symphony Orchestra.
Interconnected by culture, commerce, and an abundance of creative and natural assets, Louisiana Main Street communities host a multitude of cultural and heritage resources including archeological sites, State and National Parks, museums, and historic landmarks. Throughout the month of November, residents and visitors are encouraged to take road trips from one Main Street community to the next to experience the rich and diverse culture of Louisiana.
Crowley became a Main Street Community in July 1999 and a National Main Street Community in July 2000. A Board of Directors serves as chairpersons of the four committees and the Main Street Manager. The Crowley Main Street slogan is “Old Town...New Flair”, which is befitting due to the new Redevelopment Street and Sidewalk Project this is nearing completion.
The purpose for which this program is organized is to stimulate downtown economic development in Crowley through organization, which is encouraging cooperation and building leadership in the business community. The promotion portion is to create and maintain a positive image for downtown as a positive place to live, shop and invest. The design portion is to improve the appearance of the downtown.
Crowley Main Street wanted to be sure to each one of who supported their 2nd Annual Main to Main Fall Fest. Main St. Manager Rita Johnson said “we look forward to your ongoing support as we continue to celebrate our culture, our heritage and our community.”
They also wished extend special thanks to Dr. Lyn Fontenot and the officers and members of The Gallery for their contribution. Without their help, this event would not have been the success it was. Again, thanks to all of you. Contributions to the Silent Auction were donated to benefit the Crowley Art Association.
The group expressed their gratitude for the participation of the following restaurants and their fine chefs: China Dragon Buffett — Mr. Allen Wong and Mr. James Sarver, Fat Mama Wings and Thangs — Mr. C. Dale Morgan, Fezzo’s Seafood, Steakhouse and Oyster Bar — Mr. Pat Bordes and Mr. Josh Spell, Old Tyme Café — Ms. Laura Benoit, and The Rice Palace — Mr. Daniel Fontenot and Sabrina Stutes Catering. These wonderful tastes will long linger in our mouths.
Also recognized were the contributions of the following Main Street Friends: the Crowley Flower Shop for the beautiful arrangements they kindly donated to this affair, to Mr. Robert Baxter an artist with The Gallery for all his help, Schilling Distributors, Step by Step Project, Rep. Jack Montoucet, to the Main Street Committee members and city workers who worked so hard to make this a memorable event and to the Mayor and Board of Aldermen and the citizens of Crowley for supporting our Main Street Program.
