Gents dominate Eunice

EUNICE – The Crowley High Gents proved why they are the District 4-3A leader as they overwhelmed an undermanned Eunice High Bobcat squad 76-44 Friday night in the Bobcat gym.
The win kept the Gents undefeated in district play with a 7-0 record. Overall, the Gents sport a 17-6 mark.
The loss left the Bobcats with a district record of 2-5 and an overall record of 8-14.
Eunice kept the game competitive in the early going when Demetrius Hebert and D’ondric Veal hit goals from 3-point range for a 6-3 lead.
But Crowley’s Therion Beverly hit a 3-point goal of his own to give the Gents an 8-7 lead at the 5:43 mark of the opening quarter. The Gents never trailed again and built a 21-11 lead at the end of the quarter.
Eunice’s Veal hit another 3-point goal to open the second quarter, but Crowley outscore Eunice 21-11 to surge to a 42-22 lead at the half. Jerrell Andrus and Michael Harmon dominated inside the lane during the quarter for the Gents.
The Gents were never pressed by the Cats in the third quarter, despite two buckets inside by Adrian Williams and two driving shots by Hebert in the frame.
The fourth quarter proved much the same for both teams as Crowley outscored the Cats 16-10.
Harmon paced the Gents with 23 points and Andrus finished with 18. Beverly added 15 points; Tuskani Figaro and Dylan Montgomery each had six; Donavon Morris had four and Henterrio Guidry and Thedrick Mouton each had two.
Veal led the Bobcats with 19 points, with 12 coming as a result of four goals from outside the three-point arc.
Hebert managed 12 points for the Cats, but no other player had more than four points for Eunice.
Crowey will be in action again Tuesday when they play host to Northwest.

In other local action, Class B’s No. 1 ranked Midland Rebels cruised to a 65-38 victory over the Grand Lake Hornets.
The victory sent the Rebels to 30-3 overall and 7-0 in league play.
Miles Prejean and Colby Gantt led the Rebels with 26 and 17 points respectively. They were followed by B.J. Cormier with nine points, Michael Vincent with four and Andrew Hains, Michael Primeaux, Alan Vondenstein and Chase Vincent with two each.
The Lady Rebels were also victorious, easing past the Lady Hornets, 42-27.
Haley Guidry had the hot hand for Midland, pouring in 13 points. Courtney LeJeune, Carisa Richard and Morgan Clement each scored eight points, Hannah Fremaux added three and Katie Primeaux had two.
The news was not as good for Notre Dame in their 5-3A showdown with North Vermilion.
North Vermilion pulled off the sweep, claiming a 57-55 victory in the girls game and a 50-41 win in the boys contest.
Notre Dame’s Celia Charles led all scorers in the opener with 19 points. She was followed by Kylie Pannell with 14 points; Lexi Troclair, 11; Taylor Simon, 8; Mary Charles, 2 and Alex Boulet, 1.
In the boys game, Taylor Thibodeaux paced the Pios with 19 points and Kane Thibodeaux had 11. Morgaan Allen added 10 points, Drew Trahan had two and Stu Cook finished with one.
