Julyfete to kick off Saturday

CROWLEY – Crowley’s annual Julyfete celebration will be held this Saturday, July 4 at the Crowley Enterprise Grounds in front of the Chamber of Commerce and ASSIST agency building.
For the third straight year Mayor Greg Jones will handle the Master of Ceremonies duties. The Reverend Jimmy Broussard leading the crowd in the festival’s opening prayer.
The Pledge of Allegiance and the National Anthem will be handled by Hunter Lambert which will be followed by a welcome by Mayor Jones.
Then the music and dancing begins.
From 5 p.m. til 7:15 p.m. Koray Broussard and the Zydeco Unit will take the stage. They will be followed by Cracker Jackson who will play from 7:45 p.m. until 9 p.m. at which time the band and the crowd will break to enjoy the fireworks display at Miller Field.
Following the fireworks, Cracker Jackson will resume playing and continue until 10:30 p.m.
City officials ask that you please leave your pets and ice chests at home as food and beverages will be provided by area vendors.
One thing that people may want to bring along is sunscreen as temperatures as of late have been topping out at the mid-high 90’s. People are also advised to hydrate themselves as often as possible should the day be a scorcher. A word to the wise - beer is not a substitute for water.
Earlier this week Crowley Chief of Police K.P. Gibson issued a warning to people who make the decision to get behind the wheel after drinking.
“We encourage everyone to enjoy their Fourth of July holiday but we will be out in force to look out for drunk drivers,” said Gibson. “A holiday isn’t a reason to put people’s lives at risk.”
Crowley Police and Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Officials will also be on the lookout for fighting and public drunkenness as well.
