Local boxers score championship wins

LAFAYETTE – Crowley Kiwanis Boxing Club boxers Luke Duhon and Tyrese Cormier strutted their stuff recently at the Governor’s Games at Lafayette High.
Duhon, an 8-year old, won the championship in the 60-pound-and-under, ten-bout division, earning a stunning unanimous decision over Backstreeet Boxing Club’s Vontraious Monette in the finals on Father’s Day.
Cormier, fighting in the 60-pound-and-over, 10-bout division, won unopposed due to no opponent in his age, weight and experience class.
Persons interested in learning the art of boxing ages 8 – 36 years old (male or female) are invited to join The Crowley Kiwanis Boxing Club. Workouts are held Monday through Thursday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the South Crowley Elementary School Gym.
The cost to participate in the boxing program is an annual USA boxing registration fee of $50.00 for insurance purposes.
The gym will be closed for summer vacation from July 10 to August 10th.
