LSU-Eunice offering H1N1 vaccine to students, workers

St. Landry Parish School System’s Head of Nursing Sylvia Brown said this week that the parish school system would be offering H1N1, or “Swine flu”, vaccinations to school-age children, faculty and staff in the near future.
Brown, in charge of coordinating the school system’s vaccination efforts, said the exact date has yet to be determined, as supplies of the vaccine have not yet arrived.
“We’re looking at setting up clinics around mid-December, based on availability of the vaccine,” Brown said.
Brown said the school district is looking at setting up six clinics at schools throughout the parish; the exact locations to be finalized by next week.
Louisiana State University-Eunice announced early this week that it will have limited quantities of the H1N1 vaccine available for students and faculty only, for free, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The vaccine comes in a nasal spray form and is intended for relatively healthy individuals.
A limit of 400 doses were given out earlier this week to student athletes, coaches, Bengal Village residents, and faculty, students and staff.
A limit of 100 doses will be given out to Nursing and Allied Health faculty and clinical students Monday, and any remaining vaccinations will be given to students and employees on Tuesday, at the University Clinic in the Acadian Student Center.
