NAUW honors Black History Month

Crowley’s chapter of the National Association of University Women recently donated a book entitled ‘African American Firsts’ by Joan Potter, to the Acadia Parish Public Library. Taking part in the donation were from left, Members Dr. Ezora Proctor, Cynthia Winbush, Librarian Sandra Henry, and members Rose Jacob and Evelyn Pleasure.

The Crowley branch- National Association of University Women have been quite busy celebrating Black history month.
At the Acadia Parish Public Library, the ladies created an exhibit honoring February as Black History Month. The public is invited to visit the library throughout February for viewing.
The display includes’s the NAUW’s club journal, a club that stays true to its founding motto of being active in their community and promoting Black History Month and various artifacts and African American historical memorabilia.
In addition of the celebratory month, the Crowley NAUW ladies donated ‘African American Firsts,’ a book by Joan Potter to the library. The literature takes the reader through highlights of the African American culture in such fields as sports, religion, military, journalism and medicine.
The book also includes several photographs and highlights 18th-century figures such as poet Phillis Wheatley and doctor James Derham.
