Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints.
That has a pretty good ring to it and it all came to reality Sunday evening when the Saints pulled off a stunning 31-17 win over the Indianapolis Colts to capture Super Bowl XLIV.
The hard luck Saints finished an improbable run through the playoffs that included a win over two-time MVP Kurt Warner in the opening game then a win over three-time MVP Brett Farve in the conference finals before Sunday’s win over four-time MVP Peyton Manning.
The Saints finished the season hoisting the Vince Lombardi trophy in Miami’s Sun Life Stadium after 43 years of losing and the frustration that came with it.
Sunday’s game had plenty of Saint highlights but nothing compared to the stunning onside kick to open the second half that seized the momentum for the black and gold.
Led by a coach that compares more to a riverboat gambler and a quarterback with ice water in his veins, the New Orleans Saints brought pride back to Louisiana and the City of New Orleans while an entire nation looked on and found the true meaning of, “Laissez les bons temps rouler.”
Mardi Gras
With the Saints win, the Mardi Gras season around Louisiana kicked off a week early.
Horns blared and fireworks lit up the night sky in almost every Louisiana town Sunday night.
The festive scene carried over into Monday with Saints flags and honking horns again heard throughout town.
What a better way to ease into the Carnival season than with a Super Bowl trophy!
