Prep schedules released

CROWLEY – With the prep football season just over two months away, area schools have released their schedules for the upcoming 2009 high school season.
For Crowley High and Notre Dame, those schedules have changed a bit from last year with both teams moving to different districts for the next two seasons.
Gone from Crowley’s schedule are LaGrange, Cecilia, Patterson, Higgins and Notre Dame.
Crowley moved from District 5-AAA to District 4-AAA this year and will compete in a league that includes Iowa, Church Point, Westlake, Eunice and Northwest.
The Gents open the season on the road at Jennings on Sept. 4 before returning home for a three-game stretch against Abbeville (Sept. 11), Bolton (Sept. 18) and Peabody (Sept. 25). Two road games follow at Rayne (Oct. 2) and Iowa (Oct. 9).
The Gents host Church Point on Oct. 15 before traveling to Westlake on Oct. 23. A home game against Eunice on Oct. 30 and a road game against Northwest on Nov. 6 rounds out the regular season.
Notre Dame remains in District 5-AAA but will play against a new alignment of teams that includes Abbeville, Erath, Kaplan, North Vermilion and Rayne.
Notre Dame lost six opponents from last year’s schedule, including Jennings, Alexandria and Iowa along with former district foes Crowley, Church Point and Northwest.
The Pios open their 2009 campaign with back-to-back road contests at Teurlings (Sept. 4) and Breaux Bridge (Sept. 11) before hosting Christian Life in their home opener on Sept. 18.
The Pios will travel to Lake Charles on Sept. 25 to take on St. Louis before returning to the friendly confines of Gardiner Memorial Stadium for a two-game home stand against Eunice (Oct. 2) and Erath (Oct. 9). A road trip to Rayne follows on Oct. 15 before two more home games against Abbeville (Oct. 23) and North Vermilion (Oct. 29).
