Playground construction begins May 7 in Church Point

The Buggy Town Playground becomes a reality this week, with construction beginning Wednesday, May 7.
As of press time, the playground had received a total of $90,777.00 in donations, thanks to the generosity of many.

April busy month for Crowley Police

CROWLEY – Crowley Police remain busy as the month of April has come and gone quickly. “We have had a busy month as we have seen an increase in several categories” stated Chief of Police K.P. Gibson. “We have experienced a rash of vehicle burglaries in various parts of town and have seen an increase in the amount of disturbance we have handled” stated Gibson.

Schools receive LEAP scores

CROWLEY – Recently, scores for the LEAP test were released among Acadia Parish schools, and throughout the state of Louisiana. Acadia Parish Superintendent, John Bourque, announced that he was well-pleased with the parish’s scores. Results were that Acadia Parish students scored extremely well among other parishes in the state.
The test was taken in March, and the requirement is that fourth and eighth grade students who attend public schools must pass both Math and English in order to progress to the next grade.

Notre Dame bids farewell to Seniors

CROWLEY – The senior class of 2008 attended their final mass at Notre Dame High School Wednesday morning. The “senior farewell mass” was attended by students, faculty, and parents of the senior students.
Father Gary Schexnayder delivered a stirring sermon congratulating the seniors on their accomplishments while warning them about the dangers of straying from God’s path. Both students and faculty members were joyous and emotional during the mass.

Garber Farms subject at Rotary Club

CROWLEY – John Suire was the guest speaker at Tuesday’s meeting of the Crowley Rotary Club. Suire spoke about Garber Farms, located in Iota, and one of the leading Louisiana distributors of sweet potatoes.
Suire spoke about the origins of Garber Farms, beginning with its start as a family-owned business selling sweet potatoes in sacks out of the barn, to the large organization Garber Farms has grown into today.
