Church Point woman stopped with $6,000 in fake money
Secret service assists with investigation
CHURCH POINT - A Church Point woman who was pulled over for wreckless driving soon found herself in much hotter water.
Upon inspection of the car owned by Jessica E. Stelly, 23, a deputy located $6,000 worth of counterfeit money. Stelly was arrested at 6 p.m. Thursday and charged with sixty counts of monetary instrument abuse, illegal display of a license plate, and improper lane usage.

Galyn Clayton recently returned to Crowley to her former place of employment at Crowley Rehab where she works as a nurse. Galyn’s return follows a two-month stint in Lafayette where she worked at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital.
Her heart, however, has been in Crowley.

MAMOU - The high price of a tank of gasoline has been the talk of most conversations throughout the nation especially during the economic crisis that the country faces.
Friday morning was no different when the nationally televised Good Morning America on ABC announced that the lowest gas prices in the nation could be found in “Mamou, Louisiana (and I hope I’m saying that right)” the morning host stated.

Members of the Acadia Youth Council gathered at the Sheriff’s Department Thursday afternoon for a very informative presentation from two members of the Jefferson Children and Youth Planning Board, Roy L. Junker and Dr. John Ryals. The men were in town to discuss the success that their group has had as well as to discuss ways for Acadia’s Youth Council to help to develop and protect the youth of Acadia Parish.
Juncker, a former Westwego Police Officer was the first to speak.
Festival of Life, one for the books

CROWLEY - The Acadiana Festival of Life concluded Thursday night with Rick Stanley as the event’s speaker.
Stanley, step-brother to Elvis Presley, detailed the tragic events of his youth from living with an abusive alcoholic father to being placed in foster care along with his brother after his mother fled the unhealthy marriage.

Wildlife agents make find
Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries Enforcement Division agents found and rescued a lost hunter experiencing hypothermia along the east side of Bayou Des Cannes near Iota in Acadia Parish.
