Columnist - Robert Walters

The eternal promise of spring, the first daffodil, the tiny buds forming on the elm tree; a faint but distinct musical note from the mockingbird, serves to remind us of the cycle of life. The passing of one season into the next reminds one of the continuity and the never changing change in God’s plan.

Columnist - Howell Dennis

When I was younger I was fortunate to grow up in one of nicer areas of Lafayette. My father was a pretty successful oil and gas attorney in Lafayette and I must admit that my parents spoiled me as a youngster. As most of you know, around the time kids start high school, they meet other kids who may offer them things that make every parent cringe.
Yes, I'm talking about drugs and alcohol.
Most kids make the right decision and turn down these substances. However, many - even intelligent kids - don't.

Columnist - Thomas Sowell

Alice in Health Care

Most discussions of health care are like something out of Alice in Wonderland.
What is the biggest complaint about the current medical care situation? "It costs too much." Yet one looks in vain for anything in the pending legislation that will lower those costs.
One of the biggest reasons for higher medical costs is that somebody else is paying those costs, whether an insurance company or the government. What is the politicians' answer? To have more costs paid by insurance companies and the government.

Columnist - Jeff Crouere

Governor Bobby Jindal was a very busy man in 2009. He was working non-stop, not on Louisiana business, but on his own personal political agenda. Over the last year, Jindal traveled out of the state for approximately 40 fund raising events, raking in about $5 million. Over the past two years, Governor Jindal has raised $8.5 million, and currently has $7.2 million cash on hand.

Columnist - Jim Brown

The new authorized biography of former Louisiana Gov. Edwin Edwards went on sale this week. In three days, the first run of 10,000 books was completely sold out. And there are pre orders for 10,000 more. People in the Louisiana book trade say they have never seen anything like the demand to buy the Edwards book. He is 82 and in the federal penitentiary. So why all the interest?
