CROWLEY – Glenn Stokes with Mosquito Control Contractors Incorporated, (MCCI) recently announced that his company has acquired a contract with Acadia Parish for a tenfold increase of infestation spraying. Stokes requested permission to spray across 138,000 acres in the parish, both via aerial and by fleets of trucks.
The current influx of mosquitoes is due to rains received from Hurricane Gustav that have hatched. Stokes informed that the contract was acquired last week, however, neither trucks nor airplanes are allowed to spray while wind speeds exceed 10 miles per hour.
“In the meantime, however, we have been able to treat and control further breeding of this certain mosquito. It is a different type of mosquito than we normally have in the area,” Stokes explained. “We want to keep the parish informed, so that they know we are working hard to bring relief from this recent outbreak,” he added.
MCCI will be spraying during the early part of this week, with the chemical Naled, which is DHH approved.
