On Saturday, April 5, a 5k walk in Birmingham Alabama was held to raise money for research to find a cure and medication to treat the disease Tuberous Sclerosis Complex.
Michael Cox, son of Jared and Margaret Gilder Cox, formerly of Crowley, was diagnosed with TSC recently.
Michael’s grandparents, Gene and Raynell Gilder, along with the entire Gilder family, marched as “Team Michael.” About 400 people total walked for the cause.
With thanks and appreciation to the Crowley Post Signal and the open-heartedness and generosity of the people of Crowley, “Team Michael” was able to make a substantial contribution for further research.
TSC is a genetic disorder that can affect many organs of the body with tumor-like growths called tubers. The severity can be mild and difficult to diagnose to extremely severe. It can be inherited or caused by a spontaneous genetic mutation.
A person with TSC can have a normal life, but this condition often requires careful attention. The TS alliance provides the most up-to-date information about TSC on many aspects of healthcare, treatment and education, creating a network of informed constituents, educators and healthcare providers.
