Deadly weekend on roads in Acadia

CROWLEY – This weekend was a dangerous one in Acadia Parish for those out on the roads, with one person killed and another one injured in two separate accidents.
A 16-year-old boy was killed Sunday evening when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a truck on La. Highway 35.
The accident occurred just after 9 p.m.
Thirty-six year old Jonathan Stanford of Church Point, La. was traveling south on La. 35 when his vehicle struck the bicyclist. Both the truck and the bicycle were southbound in the south travel lane. The bicyclist attempted to change lanes directly into the path of the pickup. The driver of the pickup took evasive action by braking and steering to the left but was unable to avoid the bicyclist.
The bicyclist was pronounced dead at Acadia/St. Landry Hospital in Church Point.
No charges have been filed in the crash.
Officials with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call around 6:14 p.m. Sunday that an accident involving an automobile and 4 wheeler occurred on Ohlenforst South of Hwy 98.
According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon an investigation into the incident revealed that a 15 year old juvenile was riding a 4 wheeler on a head row in a field and failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling on Ohlenforst Road.
The juvenile was transported by Air Med to a Lafayette Hospital where his condition is unknown. Charges as pending against the juvenile as the investigation continues.
The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
