BATON ROUGE — Harassing or intimidating someone by text message, e-mail or posts on social networking sites like Facebook would be deemed “cyberbullying” and would be a crime under a bill proposed by a Shreveport lawmaker.

The House Criminal Justice Committee is scheduled to debate the measure by Rep. Roy Burrell today. The bill comes as a bullying case in Massachusetts has received national attention. Six high school students are charged with bullying a 15-year-old girl who eventually killed herself. Prosecutors say the girl endured months of threats, including on Facebook and through other electronic forms.
