The Crowley Garden Club presented the July 2023 Garden of the Month Award to Gail and Percy Johnson. Tucked away on Camp Street in Bayou Bend, this landscaping delight is a true resource for birds and wildlife. The beautiful gardens are the collaborative effort of Percy and Gail as they maintain the gardens and lawn year-round, resulting in an impeccable presentation. Despite the winter freezes and current hot weather, the Johnsons have expressed a true love for all aspects of gardening and nature. Decorating the property is an impressive collection of bedding plants including pentas, agapanthus, daylilies, coleus, lantana, phlox, and curcumas. Larger species include Chinese fringe, acacia, and China doll. A unique collection of lovely birdhouses handcrafted by Percy provide added charm and personality. Purple martins and bluebirds continue to return each season to visit and seek shelter here. A large crepe myrtle provides a canopy of shade for the side garden beds. The well-groomed lawn is healthy and green, and the American flag is proudly displayed in the front yard of this beautiful home. The Johnsons would like to thank Martha Harmon and everyone at Harmon’s Greenhouse & Nursery for providing a wealth of knowledge and gardening advice over the years. The July award was presented by Crowley Garden Club members Brooke Frey Bouillion and Meagan Villejoin (not shown).
