Daughters of Nefertiti present ‘Jewels of the Nile’ Cotillion

RAYNE - The Daughters of Nefertiti, Inc. presented their second annual “Jewels of the Nile” Cotillion on Saturday, April 28, at the Rayne Civic Center.
Theme for the evening presentation was “An Elegant Evening with Precious Jewels.”
Guests were welcomed by Chasity Minix, mistress of ceremonies.
The invocation was presented by Rev. Nathan T. Stevens, pastor of Starlight aptist Church, Rayne.
Greetings were delivered by Tasheka Butler, club member.
The debs were presented during “My Cherie Amour” by Phillip Martin. The waltz with their escorts were choreographed by Tasheka Butler.
The parent message was given as “Butterfly” by Mariah Carey was heard.
Allegra Plummer, club hictorian, presented the Miss Congeniality Award to Anastasia Dixion, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roderick Freeman and John Lazaro, and a Rayne High School junior.
Shandra Jolivette, last year’s honoree, crowned her successor, Queen Shanaya Thomas, daughter of Cutina LeBlanc and Daniel Thomas and a Rayne High School junior.
Court members included:
Essence Broussard, a Rayne High School senior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kerold Broussard;
Tierra Charles, Rayne High School junior and daughter of Tarra Roberts and Ron Charles;
Torianna Charlot, Rayne High School junior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Malcolm Malbrough and Jonelle Charlot;
Valerie Gordon, Rayne High School junior and daughter of Tonya Roberts and Rufus Senegal;
Tyanne Mosley, Rayne High School junior and daughter of Mr. and Mrs Roderick Freeman and Ryane Mosley; and
Shatara Price, Rayne High School junior and daughter of Shellie Gabriel.
Club first vice prsident Valene Charles presented he toast to the royalty, followed by the Cotillion Queen promenade to “Golden” by Jill Scott.
Debs, parents, escorts and their parents were acknowledged by club treasurer Nicole Young-Norman, with club second vice presdient Laquinta Wycoff-Domingue acknowledge the Daughters of Nefertiti.
Club secretary MIllerson Wilridge gave the closing remarks for an enjoyed evening.
Special thanks were espressed by DJ Jeremy Thomas, photographer Hmble and Blessed, and volunteers Brenda Freeman, Claude Francis, Gerard Broussard ad Reginald Milstead.
Club officers include presdient Curtrese Minix, first vice president Valene Charles, secnd vice presdient Laquinta Wycoff-Domingue, secretary MIllerson Wilridge, founder LaRhonda Yokum-Guidry, reporter Tajuana Bessard, financial secretary Crystal Caillet, treasurer Nicole Young-Norman, historian Allegra Plummer, Sgt.-at-arms Rachelle Minix, along with members Tonya Rabum, Tasheka Butler, Timeka Btler and Kayla S. Richard.
Established in 2016, the Daughters of Nefertiti Inc. is a nonprofit organization that fosters and furthers the ideas of sisterhood. The club consists of African-American women who are committed to public service and diverse health initiatives with the primary focus to encourage scholastic growth by unifying like- mined young women within the community.
The purpose of the organization is to reach the underprivileged and at-risk youth of our community and to expose them to the finer things in life and instill in them pride and self-respect for future growth. Together, they hope to save the youth in the community.
