Forum set for Rayne candidates in time for Nov. 6 election

RAYNE - Set for Tuesday, Oct. 16, at the Rayne Civic Center Ballroom, the Rayne Political Forum will feature candidates seeking public office in the city of Rayne for the election slated Nov. 6.
Candidates for Mayor of the City of Rayne, Chief of Police for the City of Rayne, and Rayne City Council have been invited to participate. The forum will begin at 6 p.m., but candidates are asked to arrive by 5:30 p.m. for pictures.
The forum is open to all citizens and will be presented free of charge by the Acadia Parish Chamber of Commerce.
As planning continues, members of the Chamber are encouraged to join the Legislative Committee to take an active part in the planning.
The Chamber’s Legislative Committee is also seeking input from residents of Rayne and Acadia Parish to be used as questions are formulated for the candidates.

Format for the forum will begin with candidates for Rayne City Council. Each of these candidates will be given two minutes to address the crowd. Council Candidates will be recognized in order of division and ward, and then in alphabetical order.
City Council candidates include (Ward 1) Cutrese Minix (D), Lester “Peadey” Washington (NP), Romel Charles (R); (Ward 2) Kenneth J. Guidry (R), Millard “Mills” Conques (D), Aleke Kanonu Jr. (D); and (Ward 3) Calise Michael Doucet (D), Greg Arabie (D).
The latter half of the program will feature candidates for Rayne Police Chief and Mayor, who will have two minutes to provide an opening statement. The questions for the Mayor and Police Chief candidates will be presented in two rounds.
Approximately 15 minutes before the forum will begin, each candidate will select a number corresponding with a question and will all answer a different, unique question. The candidates are then allowed a two-minute closing statement following the question and answer rounds.
Charles “Chuck” Robichaux (R), James “Morris” Montgomery (NP) and Brian Seth Mouton (D).
Police Chief candidates are Carroll Stelly (R) and Eddie Guidry (R).
Alderman at Large Lendell “Pete” Babineaux (R) and Ward 4 Alderman James “Jimmy” Fontenot (NP) are both unopposed for the November election.
A Chamber representative will be present in the front row and will hold up a yellow card when there are fifteen seconds remaining. The red card will be raised when time is up, and candidates will be asked to immediately conclude.
All candidates will be required to strictly adhere to the specified time limits.
