Nearly 150 parish residents —149 to be exact — disposed of various forms of household hazardous waste during an event sponsored Saturday by the Acadia Parish Police Jury and the Acadia Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness. Clockwise from top left, participants were registered and showed proof of parish residency in the parking lot on the south side of the Acadia Rice Arena; about 50 yards further along was the tire disposal truck; around on the north side of the facility, waste was off-loaded by volunteers and personnel from Clean Earth, the contractor hired to dispose of the items; paint was the most common item turned in during the event. “We got mostly paint and oil,” said Ashley LeBlanc, OHSEP director. “We also got a lot of pesticides, household chemicals and tires.” LeBlanc thanked personnel from the Crowley Fire Department, the District 11 Volunteer Department and Acadian Ambulance for standing by throughout the event.
