Rayne High trio earns All-State honorable mention selections

RAYNE - After a three-win season in 2018, the expectations weren’t especially high for the Rayne Wolves during their 2019 prep football campaign.
And rightfully so.
The Wolves were breaking in a first-year head coach and were starting a ton of underclassmen in a tough district in Class 4A.
The Wolves took the underdog role to heart and rose to the occasion, shocking many by not only winning six regular-season games, but the District 4-4A title in Coach Kaine Guidry’s first season at the helm of his alma mater.
While the Wolves were young across the board, it was a trio of seniors that led the way and were recently recognized for their efforts when the Louisiana Sports Writers Association released its Class 4-A All-State Team.
Jamarcus Monroe, Brandon Auguillard and Ron Roberts, all two-way players for the Wolves, were named to the squad as honorable mentions.
Monroe was a first-team All-District selection on both sides of the ball.
At running back, Monroe racked up 720 yards and 10 touchdowns on 134 carries. He also hauled in 12 passes for another 202 yards and a pair of scores.
On the defensive side, Monroe was a leader at linebacker where he recorded 57 tackles (33 solo), eight tackles for a loss, two sacks and three pass breakups. He added a pair of interceptions and four forced fumbles.
Auguillard was also an All-District first-team selection on both sides of the ball as a lineman.
Roberts made the 4-4A All-District first-team on the defensive line as well where he recorded 62 tackles (40 solo), 17 tackles for a loss and four sacks. He added six forced fumbles and two pass breakups.
Roberts was a second-team selection on offense by the league’s coaches at running back. He totaled 650 yards and four touchdowns on 167 carriers and had nine receptions for 90 yards and a touchdown.
The headliners on the LSWA Class 4A All-State team were Lakeshore quarterback Christian Westcott and Neville defensive back Andrew Cagle.
Westcott was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player and Westcott was the Defensive MVP.
