Christmas time at Vermilionville

The community is invited to experience the simple warmth and beauty of Christmas past at Vermilionville Living History Museum and Folklife Park.
Vermilionville will bring to life the holiday traditions of yesteryear from at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m on Tuesday, Dec. 10 through Saturday, Dec. 21.
On Saturday, Dec. 14, the annual Old Time Winter Family Day Celebration will begin at 10 a.m. and last until 4 p.m. with lots more to offer. The village will be filled with great learning opportunities, live music, delicious food, Native American storytelling, arts and crafts and self-guided tours.
Papa Noël (the French Santa Claus) will be there, and children will be able to write letters sealed with wax to him. Vermilionville’s artisans will demonstrate several holiday happenings from 1765-1890, such as how to make candles, soap, Victorian paper ornaments, citrus pomanders and more. There will also be a reading of “The Night Before Christmas” each half hour. Admission is $5 for those 4 and older.
As a part of Old Time Winter Family Day, those with sensory processing differences are invited for a Sensory Friendly Visit to Vermilionville. This initiative creates an inclusive, cultural and learning environment. The Sensory Friendly Visit will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. to allow families to tour the village before Old Time Winter Family Day begins. Once the village opens, sensory friendly accommodations will remain in place for an additional hour, until 11 a.m. Sensory Friendly crafts will begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Performance Center. Vermilionville offers special accommodations and accessories to ensure a successful visit for families. Admission is $10 per family and pre-registration is encouraged but not mandatory. The Sensory Friendly Visit to Vermilionville is a partnership with The Acadiana Autism Society and The Lafayette Parish School System.
To register for the Sensory Friendly portion of the day, contact Melanie Herrington at education@BayouVermilionDistrict.org or call (337) 233-4077, ext. 206.
