‘Remembrance Run/Walk’ honors vets, loved ones
The inaugural “Veterans and Loved Ones Remembrance Run/Walk” was held on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2019.
The event honored all veterans — living and deceased — their family members and loved ones.
The 2-mile course started at the Fire Department Main Station, taking runners and walkers west 1 mile on Hutchinson towards the turn-around point at the Martin Luther King Center.
There everyone headed back east, returning to the Fire Department finish line where each participant received a medal for completion of the event.
Among the audience were three local elected officials — Rev. Peter Joseph (outgoing Police Jury of District 1), Police Juror-elect Walter Andrus (incoming juror of District 1), and Alderman Vernon “Step” Martin
The Dugar and Reed families from Crowley, sponsored the event.
Major Schnicka Singleton, a native of Crowley, and her husband, Chief Warrant Officer 4 (Ret.) Kalonji Singleton of Anchorage, Alaska, chaired the event. They are both stationed in Fort Hood, Texas.
Much appreciation was expressed to the Crowley Police Department for protecting all participants by controlling traffic during the event.
