Frog Festival delays pageants, final decision on festival dates

Pageants to select 2020 royalty for the Rayne Frog Festival have been postponed as organizers are deciding what to do with the May celebration.
The Frog Festival Committee met recently at the Chamber of Commerce office to make decisions about the upcoming festival and festival-related events in the wake of the coronavirus protocols set forth by the governor.
“With the protocols in place, we really can’t have events with only 50 people,” said Festival Chairman Jeremy Lavergne. “So, for the safety of everyone concerned, we’ve decided to postpone the pageants until the restrictions have been lifted or until the spread of COVID-19 has been contained.”
The committee decided that the festival pageants — ranging from Tadpole to Ms. Frog Festival Queen — will be postponed to a later date. They were scheduled to be held the weekend of March 28 and 29.
Concerning the May 7-9 festival itself, “Since we still have a couple of months remaining before the festival, we will revisit plans on April 13, the date when local and state operations are planned to resume if COVID-19 is under control,” Lavergne said.
